Douglas County, Georgia was established in 1870 during the Reconstruction of the South. The first public high school for the county was built in 1880 on the present day site of the National Guard Armory in Douglasville.
The school's teams are the Douglas County Tigers, which compete in the Georgia High School Association AAAAAA classification. The school fields teams in baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, fast-pitch softball, football, golf, soccer, swimming, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and wrestling.
The school's namesake, Robert S. Alexander, was a long-time employee of the Douglas County School System.
