Central Illinois Regional Airport at Bloomington–Normal (IATA: BMI [2], ICAO: KBMI, FAA LID: BMI) is a public airport in McLean County, Illinois, [1] three miles east of Bloomington [1] and southeast of Normal. Owned by the Bloomington–Normal Airport Authority, [1] it is also known as Central Illinois Regional Airport (CIRA).
The airport received $171,000 from the State of Illinois during the COVID-19 pandemic to install new electric airfield security gates. [6] [7] For the 12-month period ending April 30, 2020, the airport averages 77 operations per week, or about 4,000 per year. This traffic is comprised completely of general aviation.
Owned by the Bi-State Authority, it is located three nautical miles (6 km) northeast of the city of Lawrenceville, Illinois [1] and also serves the city of Vincennes in Knox County, Indiana. This airport is included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015, which categorized it as a general aviation facility. [3]
