Comal County (/ ˈ k oʊ m æ l / KOH-mal) is a county located on the Edwards Plateau in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census , its population was 161,501. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] Comal County is known for its rich German-Texan and European history. [ 4 ]
Comal was established on the in 1846 along the Old San Antonio Road, and was turned into a section houses for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad at the turn of the 19th century. In the 1980s and 2000, the community's population was 40. [2] It is also home to a St. Joseph's Church and cemetery. [3]
Within Texas' modern boundaries, the county included the Trans-Pecos and most of the Panhandle. The county was abolished when Texas ceded its western lands under the Compromise of 1850. Wegefarth County, formed in 1873 in the Texas Panhandle and abolished in 1876. Worth County, formed in 1850 from part of Santa Fe County.

Bulverde is known for its [4] small-town, slow pace of life, coupled with the German emigrant history of the town's founders. Bulverde was originally named Piepers Settlement after a prominent German pioneer. [5]
