The Urdu ghazal is a literary form of the ghazal-poetry unique to the Indian subcontinent, written in the Urdu standard of the Hindostani language. It is commonly asserted that the ghazal spread to South Asia from the influence of Sufi mystics in the Delhi Sultanate .
Nawab Mirza Khan Daagh Dehlvi (Urdu: نواب مرزا خان داغ دہلوی, 25 May 1831 – 17 March 1905) was a poet known for his Urdu ghazals. He belonged to the old Delhi school of Urdu poetry. [2] [3] [4] He wrote romantic and sensuous poems and ghazals in simple and chaste Urdu, minimising usage of Persian words.
In addition to Urdu, ghazals have been very popular in the Gujarati language.
