I was looking in the "INSERT" tab on the ribbon, when the command I was looking for was actually hidden in the "TEXT" tab on the ribbon. Not exactly intuitive.....and even then can't just insert a pdf as it is. Never mind. Had to insert it as text (the pdf was actually a building plan) which then went over two pages in the word document.
