Uncle Scrooge is one of the core titles of the "Duck universe". Its early issues by famed writer/artist (and creator of Scrooge McDuck) Carl Barks formed the inspiration for the syndicated television cartoon DuckTales in the late 1980s. Several stories written by Barks and published in Uncle Scrooge were adapted as episodes of DuckTales.
Uncle Scrooge #1, featuring the story Only a Poor Old Man, was published in March 1952. This story, along with Back to the Klondike , first published a year later in March 1953, became the biggest influences in how Scrooge's character, past, and beliefs would become defined.

The title is a reference to "The Old Castle's Secret", which was the second story to feature Scrooge McDuck and was the first in which he was a starring character in an adventure with his nephews. The story was first published in the Danish Anders And & Co. #2004-09; the first American publication was in Uncle Scrooge #342, in June 2005. [1]
