Washington Charter Township, located within Metro Detroit, is a charter township of Macomb County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 28,165 at the 2020 census , [ 2 ] up from 25,139 in 2010 .
In the township the population was spread out, with 22.9% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years.
In Michigan, most local government functions — police and fire, building and zoning, tax assessment, street maintenance, etc. — are the responsibility of individual cities and townships. The Macomb Intermediate School District serves all school districts based in the county.
