The Richard J. Dorer Memorial Hardwood State Forest is a 1,016,204 acres (4,112.43 km 2) reserve of current and former forest in Minnesota's Driftless Area.Only 45,000 acres (180 km 2) of the land is state owned, with the remainder owned by private individuals and community groups, governed by easements.
With an area of 639 acres (259 ha), it is the smallest state forest in Minnesota. In addition to hiking and hunting, backcountry camping is allowed within the forest, defined campsites are located at the nearby Crow Wing State Forest and Land O'Lakes State Forest. [1]
The Cannon Valley Trail is a paved rail trail that follows the Cannon River in southeast Minnesota.
