Royal York Crescent is a major residential street in Clifton, Bristol. It overlooks much of the docks, and much of the city can be seen from it. It also joins Clifton Village at one end. It is one of the most expensive streets in the city. Nos. 1–46 form a crescent which is a Grade II* listed building. [1]

Sale ad 1867. Charles Pinney (1793-1867) commissioned Engineers House in 1831 shortly after his marriage. He was born in 1793 in Clifton, Bristol. His father was John Preter who had adopted the name Pinney when he inherited their numerous estates. Charles became a merchant and in 1831 was elected as Mayor of Bristol.

The current building was commissioned as a private house by Alderman Thomas Proctor, who was the proprietor of a fertiliser business. The site he selected became available when the Society of Merchant Venturers donated Clifton Down to Bristol Corporation in 1861. [6]

Clifton Down railway station, which is located in the Clifton East ward. Clifton East was one of the thirty-five council wards in Bristol, England. As the name suggests, the ward covered the eastern part of the Clifton area of Bristol. The ward ceased to exist in May 2016 following a boundary review.
