I think a quick search will show that Crestline is not on the same level as Andersen. Crestlines are about $100 per window at Menards. Andersens will go for $400 easy. It is common to put really cheap windows in spec houses. This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread.

We are steering clear of pella after having to replace 4 different sets of pella windows due to rot and leaks. Pella's response was the homeowners should have had the windows de caulked and re caulked every year. I will add that all of these windows were aluminum clad and there was also a class action suit a few years back against pella.

We have installed Jeld-Wen wood in the past. And Ply Gem vinyl windows. The Ply Gem vinyl windows impressed us. But now their wood window quote has come in and its 30% less than Jeld-Wen. That and I have only seen PlyGem wood windows on one house and the install was botched. PlyGem has just the one line of all wood windows and its their ...

When Pella put their name on cheap vinyl windows they lost me as a fan. I have their wood windows in my own home and plan to replace them with triple pane vinyl units. If they spent more time creating a nice IGU and less time getting in bed with Lowes then more window dealers might sell their stuff.

Andersen 400 vs. Trimline windows. I am about to pick new windows for my house. I thought I had made my decision on the andersen until i looked at the Trimline windows. The person I spoke with sells both, and says the trim lines are just as good as Andersen and at a lower price. I have known this person for 30 years and he runs a local supply ...

So far, our contractor replaced about 10 windows and none of them have shims on the sides. The gaps on the sides of each window between the rough framing and the window frame vary between 1/8" to 1/2". Every window frame is slightly wider in the center than at the top and bottom. The difference varies between 1/16" to 1/8".

As to window nail flanges, I always rip a saw kerf+ off the back of the window trim so it sits tight to the sheeting. Special pricing when needed, co-ops for advertising, and they feed service related work back to us. Lead time is also great about a week in a half on average.
