On August 25, 1982, the Queen of Prince Rupert departed from McLoughlin Bay (Bella Bella, Campbell Island) several hours behind schedule, bound for Ocean Falls. In an effort to make up for lost time, the captain ordered for the ship to be taken through Gunboat Passage, a narrow and dangerous shortcut.
