Salter-Battle Hunting and Fishing Lodge, also known as Portsmouth Hunting and Fishing Club, is a historic hunting lodge located on Sheep Island near Ocracoke, Carteret County, North Carolina. It was built about 1945, and is a simple one-story, side-gable, frame building set on concrete piers. A gable-front, screened porch was added about 1948.
A North Carolina businessman, E. Lyndon McKee, and his wife, Gertrude, purchased the estate in 1922. After purchasing the property, the McKee's built a rustic two story Inn and added the famous 11 hole golf course designed by J. Victor East in 1924.
Like most other early Western Commercial buildings in Deer Lodge, it is "unadorned and has a centered, recessed entry with plate glass windows on either side that angle in toward the door." [2] 209 Missouri Avenue (built between 1884 and 1888), an old firehouse which served as the city's fire station until 1919.
