Oscar Jacks, the son of one of Ariel's founders. A frame church was dedicated in 1888 as the spiritual successor to nearby Mount Carmel Baptist Church, which closed in 1873. Ariel Church became defunct in 1934 and by 1942 the building was in poor shape. At some point the church burned. The ground was surveyed by the WPA in the 1930s.
