Hulu Langat is a federal constituency in Hulu Langat District, Selangor, Malaysia, that has been represented in the Dewan Rakyat since 1974. The federal constituency was created from parts of the Langat constituency in the 1974 redistribution and is mandated to return a single member to the Dewan Rakyat under the first past the post voting system.
Hulu Langat District is a district of Malaysia located in the southeastern corner of Selangor, between Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan.It is bordered by the state of Pahang to the east and north, Gombak district to the north-west, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Petaling district to the west, Sepang district to the south-west, and state of Negeri Sembilan to the south.
MPKJ covers the entire Hulu Langat region except Ampang. MPKJ's municipal area covers the entire Hulu Langat region, except Ampang Jaya and Pandan Indah, which were ceded in 1992 to the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council. Major cities and towns in the area include Kajang, Semenyih, Bandar Baru Bangi, Cheras, Hulu Langat town and Dusun Tua. [2]

The district of Hulu Selangor has existed since the Federated Malay States era, although at that time the name of the district was spelled Ulu Selangor. Hulu Selangor was supposed to be administered by multiple administrative councils, but was united into a single Hulu Selangor Municipal Council by the Selangor State Assembly on January 1, 1977, under Section 2 Local Government Act 1976 (Act 171).
