Mukuru is a collection of slums in the city of Nairobi. It is approximately 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) south of the central business district of Nairobi. It is one of the largest slums in Nairobi.
Mukuru slums as any other slum in the world has been faced by different challenges including crime, drug abuse, prostitution and other challenges that face slums all over the world, but the people of Mukuru have been able to continuously fight this challenges and this has enabled many improvements in the community.

[2] The deceased ancestors of the Himba and Herero are subservient to him, acting as intermediaries. However, while the ancestors are believed to bless or curse, Mukuru is believed to only bless. [3]
Mukuru only blesses, while the ancestors can bless and curse. [15] Each family has its own sacred ancestral fire, which is kept by the fire-keeper. The fire-keeper approaches the sacred ancestral fire every seven to eight days in order to communicate with Mukuru and the ancestors on behalf of his family. [16]

[2] The stove she designed sells for an affordable $10, and it reduces pollution to 10% compared with traditional cooking and it uses much less charcoal.
