Half Dome was used as the logo for a software company, Sierra On-Line. In 1971, outdoor recreation and climbing equipment company The North Face created their company logo, based upon a stylized depiction of the Half Dome formation. It is still their logo 50 years later. [47] In 1988, Half Dome was featured on a 25 cent United States postage stamp.

Half Dome Granodiorite traces to early Late Cretaceous. Its age is between 85 and 83.4 (+/-1 to 2%) Ma, with average age of 84.1 Ma. It is younger than Sentinel granodiorite (88.4 Ma), and older than Cathedral Peak granite (83.7 Ma). [4] Half Dome Granodiorite is the Valley's youngest plutonic rock. [5]
The Regular Northwest Face of Half Dome was the first Grade VI big wall climbing route in the United States. It was first climbed in 1957 by a team consisting of Royal Robbins, Mike Sherrick, and Jerry Gallwas. Its current aid climbing rating is VI 5.9 A1 or 5.12 for the free climbing variation. [1]

The Half Dome is a granite dome in California's Yosemite National Park, whose summit at elevation 8,844 ft (2,696 m) is more than 4,700 ft (1,400 m) * above the floor of Yosemite Valley. Known to the local Native Americans as "Tis-sa-ack", the dome was first summitted by George G. Anderson in October 1875.
