In 2014, Waterford City and County Council was formed by the merger of Waterford City Council and Waterford County Council by the Local Government Reform Act 2014. [6] The merged council then had a Mayor for the city and county. [7] [8]
An election to all 32 seats on Waterford City and County Council was held on 7 June 2024 as part of the 2024 Irish local elections. [1] Waterford City and County is divided into 6 local electoral areas (LEAs) to elect councillors for a five-year term of office on the electoral system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV).
The authority came into operation on 1 June 2014. Prior to this the city had its own local council, Waterford City Council. The new council is the result of a merger of Waterford City Council and Waterford County Council. The council has 32 representatives (councillors) who are elected from six local electoral areas.
