According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 34.3 square miles (88.8 km 2), of which 33.8 square miles (87.5 km 2) is land and 0.50 square miles (1.3 km 2), or 1.49%, is water. [6] Chestnut Ridge crosses the southeast corner of the township, with a high point of 2,545 feet (776 m) above sea level.
The population was 10,897 at the 2020 census, [2] an increase over the figure of 10,681 tabulated in 2010. [3] Communities within the township include Hopwood, Hatfield, Hutchinson, Chadville, South Uniontown, Leith, and Revere. South Union Township contains the larger two of the three Uniontown area shopping districts.
