Higher intake of heme iron, which is found in red meat and other animal products, may significantly increase the risk of type 2 diabetes, according to a new study.
The human diet contains iron in two forms: heme iron and non-heme iron. Heme iron is usually found in red meat, whereas non-heme iron is found in plant based sources.
