Originally only open to men, but women were later accepted as social members, and as full members by the time of the Order's demise. The age limits of the order were 18–65. The order had about 125,000 members throughout its existence, with a high of 70,000 to 63,000 when it went into receivership in August 1892.

Winslow who published an annual "register and directory" of the GFWC ones and some more, which was in its 24th annual edition in 1922. [7] The GWFC did not admit clubs for African-American women, and Winslow's directory seems to omit them too.
