The idea of developing a college campus at Muak Lek was developed by Church workers in consultation with the Thailand Adventist Mission to meet the needs of higher education among Thai Adventist youth. A rural setting was chosen because it was considered more conducive to study than a location in the city. [8]
The school of nursing, along with Southeast Asia Union College (S.A.U.C), merged in 1992 to form Mission College. It was accredited by the Ministry of University Affairs in 1994. On August 4, 2008, Mission College received university status from the Royal Thai Government and was renamed Asia-Pacific International University (A.I.U).
On May 17, 2000, the Mission Kindergarten School was registered with the Saraburi Education Department. In May 2000 the two schools were combined and the process for the government license for the school was initiated. The newly merged school was named Adventist International Mission School (AIMS) and opened its doors to the wider community.

Assumption University originated from Assumption Commercial College in 1969 as an autonomous higher education institution under the name of Assumption School of Business. It adopted the name from the precedent school "Assumption College" given by Rev. Fr. Emile August Colombet, a French missionary in Siam, in 1885.
