Park Sterling Bank, was a bank based in Charlotte, North Carolina. It had $3.3 billion in assets [1] and branches in North and South Carolina, Virginia and Georgia. The parent company was Park Sterling Corp. (Nasdaq: PSTB). A merger with South State Bank was completed November 30, 2017. [2]
On September 25, 2012, Crescent and Engelhard, North Carolina–based East Carolina Bank, with 25 branches, announced their merger. [11] Once the East Carolina deal was completed, VantageSouth had 45 branches in central and eastern North Carolina and $2 billion in assets. It was announced in January 2014 that five of those will close. [8] [11]
The combined bank became the largest in the American South, with assets of $225 billion, and 2,600 branches stretching from North Carolina to New Mexico. [citation needed] The following year, NationsBank acquired Florida's largest bank, Jacksonville-based Barnett Bank, for $15.5 billion, increasing the company's total assets to $284 billion.
