The WSJ ranking is undergraduate and US News includes graduate schools. This will apply to a lot of the ranking arguments, particularly where Berkeley and UCLA are concerned. The graduate schools lift UVA in the domestic US News rankings. UVA’s law school is in the top 10, business school is top 15, and medical school in the top 25.
IMO, for any pre-professional program, I wouldn’t pay much (or any) extra for UVa.
. johnnytremain April 3, 2008, 11:09am 9.
If cost isn’t a consideration then UVA for sure. UF is always a decent choice if money is factored in.
.
My GF is in Honors and she said that there’s no priority registration – only for Nat’l Merit ...

Well, in UVa’s defense, here’s some things to consider. If you’re interested in investment backing, UVa’s undergraduate business school, the McIntire School of Commerce is superb. In this bad economy, 82% graduated w/ jobs and 7% went on to grad school. (UVa also has a graduate business school called the Darden School. Yes, it’s ...
KatStevens April 13, 2016, 10:08pm 1. My daughter was wait-listed at Columbia, so now she’s trying to decide between UNC and UVA. She’s not sure what she wants to study, but leaning towards Chemistry or Economics. The schools seem evenly rated (UVA ranked #3 as a national public university; UNC ranked #5 as a national public university).
that UVA’s low standing as a ranking research university is due to a long history of comparatively low priority for science in the allocation of internal funds. Various strategic planning efforts in the recent past (and underway now) have not helped the situation. Stated goals from previous planning efforts, including projected hiring and
UVA does not have secondary entry to get into different engineering majors. UVA is much easier to switch between schools and has interdisciplinary minors/etc. UVA Engineering was such an obvious winner on all these fronts that D23 did not even apply to VT. The same decision is made by many top Engineering kids from various HS in our area.
I’ve recently read a new college ranking (‘Revealed Pref. Ranking’) and found out that UVA was the only public school that was among the top 20. If this were true, I would have to believe that UVA has a decent reputation throughout the country, but I’m not convinced that this ranking is fully accurate.
Phi Delt and Fiji are the “good guy” frats. As for “southern” frats, Zate is going to be at the top of the list but DKE is fairly hardcore as well. If frats and sororities are your thing, then you’ll be able to find one you like in Hooville.
. whiteguyfromva05 December 26, 2004, 9:24pm 5.
I know most frats at UVa are preppy, but ...
Purdue University-West Lafayette. University of California-San Diego. University of Maryland-College Park. University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. University of Washington
. shyboy13 November 10, 2004, 2:07pm 3.
On average, rankings generally have Berkeley as a top 5 school, UMich as a top 10 school , and UCLA as a top 15 school.
.
My DD has been accepted in a couple of engineering schools and UIUC, UVA and VT have bubbled to the top of the list. UVA and VT are in-state for us. What are your thoughts about these schools for computer science major? She does not want to go only for brand name or rankings. She wants a school that really invests in teaching and strengthening CS knowledge, and has a sense of community. She ...
