As far as the losing aircraft on patrol was a real thing during war in 1914. Remember it only takes one well placed bullet from a ground troop to kill a pilot or damage an airplane enough to make it malfunction and crash. Yes they were a factor and yes many realized an aircrafts future potential as a weapon.

Well, in world war two, for example, USA provided around 2/3 of the Russian Vehicular army, and did supply a lot of the allies, while remaining neutral. I believe it´s not *unrealistic* to trade units, as USA did it, a lot, via lend lease act; and our volunteers, same with Canadian and Polish, served under different banners.
