Franklin was formally incorporated by the state assembly on November 2, 1820, [5] on a 62-acre (250,000 m 2) tract of land. This tract was purchased from William Hudspeth and was named for Founding Father Benjamin Franklin. [6] The post office was established on September 29, 1822, with Robert W. Simpson as postmaster. [7]
Octagon Hall is an eight-sided house in Simpson County, Kentucky near Franklin, Kentucky completed around 1860. [2] It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. [ 1 ] It has also been known as the Andrew Jackson Caldwell House after the man who built the house.
