It is run by the RSPB as a nature reserve and is known for its breeding seabirds, including northern gannet, Atlantic puffin, razorbill, common guillemot, black-legged kittiwake and fulmar. There is a visitor centre. [1]
The reserve and visitor centre are open daily all year round (except Christmas Day) from 9 am to dusk and the visitor centre from 9.30 am – 5 pm (4.30 pm November–January inclusive). Entrance is free for RSPB members, and half price for those who come by public transport, bicycle or on foot.
The visitor centre and its café are open daily from 9.30 am–4.00 pm all year, except for 25 and 26 December, but staying open until 5 pm from April to October. Entrance is free for RSPB members, although there are entry charges for other visitors. [15]

It works to promote conservation and protection of birds and the wider environment through public awareness campaigns, petitions and through the operation of nature reserves throughout the United Kingdom.
The RSPB plans to erect a bird hide at the northern end of the reserve, [9] and later to provide a visitor centre. [4] Vehicular access for visitors is from Bodymoor Heath Lane, alongside Aston Villa's Bodymoor Heath Training Ground, some distance south of the reserve. [7]
