The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is a mainline Protestant church headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. The ELCA was officially formed on January 1, 1988, by the merging of three Lutheran church bodies. As of December 31, 2023, it has approximately 2.79 million baptized members in 8,498 congregations. [5] For the fifth Colloquium and Synod, the diocese returned to Malone, Texas, May 12–15, 2010, [ 6 ] and met there again for the sixth Colloquium and Synod May 11–13, 2011.
