Aligarh (Hindi pronunciation: [əliːgəɽʱ]; formerly known as Koil [5]) is a city in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India.It is the administrative headquarters of Aligarh district, and lies 342 kilometres (213 mi) northwest of state capital Lucknow and approximately 130 kilometres (81 mi) southeast of the capital, New Delhi.
Municipal elections were held in Uttar Pradesh in two phases on 4 and 11 May 2023 to elect members of 760 municipalities - 17 Nagar Nigams, 199 Nagar Palika Parishad and 544 Nagar Panchayats.
