The 2020–21 2.Bundesliga was the 47th season of the 2.Bundesliga.It began on 18 September 2020 and concluded on 23 May 2021. [1] The season was originally scheduled to begin on 31 July 2020 and conclude on 16 May 2021, [2] though this was delayed due to postponement of the previous season as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since Ligue 2 reduced in size, 4 teams were relegated and only 2 promoted, [1] so Troyes, Quevilly-Rouen, Concarneau, and Valenciennes were relegated [2] (after 1, 3, 1, and 10 seasons in the second division respectively). Troyes has now been relegated in two consecutive seasons and Valenciennes had last been in the third division since 2004–05.
Between 1956 and 1960 and between 1962 and 1966, the league consisted of two divisions, Tweede Divisie A and Tweede Divisie B. The league was disbanded in 1971. Six clubs were promoted to the Eerste Divisie (De Volewijckers, FC Eindhoven, FC VVV, Fortuna Vlaardingen, PEC and Roda JC), while the other eleven teams became amateur clubs.
The club was founded in the former Oranjehotel on the Jodenstraat. The first game was played on 24 October 1926, as EVV lost 2–4 to Helden. [2] In 1931, EVV won a championship for the first time. The club also moved to the Nieuwe Markt. Success was again achieved in 1940. The "Baron de Vexela Coupe" was won by EVV.
They achieved promotion after beating Dessel 0–2 on the second division's 33rd match day on 13 May 2007. They finished at the 15th place in 2007–08 and again in 2008–09 , though the club was relegated at the end of the 2008–09 season because the number of clubs in the first division was reduced from 18 to 16.
