From 1995-2006, Wilson served as Vice President for University Outreach and Associate Provost at Auburn University in Alabama. He was the first African-American to hold a Vice Presidency at Auburn, and the first African-American to hold any senior administrative appointment at a predominantly white university in the State of Alabama.

Morgan State was the first—and, until the turn of the 21st century, the only—historically black university to field a lacrosse team. [ 20 ] In 2005 students organized a lacrosse club which plays other college's lacrosse clubs, but the team has yet to qualify to become an NCAA -sanctioned team.
