The 2009 World Games (2009年世界運動會) the eighth edition of the World Games, were an international multi-sport event held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan (under the name Chinese Taipei) from 16 July 2009 to 26 July 2009. The games featured sports that are not contested in the Olympic Games.

Sumo was one of the sports at the 2009 World Games in Kaohsiung and was played between 17 and 18 July. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] 97 athletes, from 21 nations, participated in the tournament. The competition took place at Kaohsiung Senior High School Gymnasium .
