Port Coquitlam (/ k oʊ ˈ k w ɪ t l ə m / koh-KWIT-ləm) is a city in British Columbia, Canada.It is one of 21 municipalities comprising Metro Vancouver.Located 27 km (17 mi) east of Vancouver, it is on the north bank of the confluence of the Fraser River and the Pitt River.
For motorists, the Trans-Canada Highway provides freeway access to Burnaby, Vancouver, Surrey, and other municipalities in the Lower Mainland. Lougheed Highway is an alternative route to the Trans-Canada, entering Coquitlam via Maillardville, continuing north to Coquitlam Centre before turning sharply east through Port Coquitlam and then into Pitt Meadows via the Pitt River Bridge.

The trail was conceived as a project in 1967 for the city of Port Coquitlam, as a mean for celebrating Canada’s 100th birthday. Developments began in the early 70s by a group called the "PoCo Trail Blazers". In 1997, the city began to improve the trail in order to make it a central part of the community.
