A Rolodex is a rotating card file device used to store a contact list.Its name, a portmanteau of the words "rolling" and "index", has become somewhat genericized for any personal organizer performing this function, or as a metonym for a total accumulation of business contacts.
Arnold Neustadter (25 August 1910 – 17 April 1996) [1] was an American inventor and businessman. He invented the Rolodex desktop rotating card file and other office equipment with Danish engineer Hildaur Neilson, [2] which has been called "a triumph of low technology" [3] and "a lasting symbol of the art of networking".
The original Macintosh and Windows versions were similar, until 3Com purchased Claris Organizer (a Mac-only product) from Claris and rebranded it as Palm Desktop 2.
