I have an old pc with Windows Xp on it and I can't throw it away because I have programs on it that cannot be found anymore. Since now I'm using a Mac I was wondering if it was possible to export the whole operating system on the old pc (with all the files included) on Virtual Box on the Mac.
1. You are correct that using one of your keys will affect your own activation (or just won't work). Microsoft will most likely release new editions after the activation date is passed, alternatively, I would recommend you simply run them - boot up and go in to Windows then take a snapshot so you can easily go back to them. After formatting a new guest hard drive, the Windows XP installation loads, but then it does nothing. It just sits there at "Preparing Installation" instead of displaying a green bar. Briefly as an aside: although the software under virtual Windows XP now starts, the software stops running owing to relatively low specification graphics driver that VirtualBox has available. The host (Windows 7) video hardware and associated driver does provide sufficient graphics capability to run the software under Windows XP (guest).
Well we don't support Windows 95 so let's stay with the Windows XP guest. You must be certain that the VPC additions are removed before you run the guest in VirtualBox. Guessing or thinking will not cut it, as they will confuse VirtualBox. Yes I was suggesting that you copy the original XP from VPC to a different place.
