The paradise parrot (Psephotellus pulcherrimus) was a colourful medium-sized parrot native to the grassy woodlands extending across the Queensland and New South Wales border area of eastern Australia. Once moderately common within its fairly restricted range, the last live bird was seen in 1927.
The situation is exemplified by Hawaii, where 30% of all known recently extinct bird taxa originally lived. [3] Other areas, such as Guam , have also been hit hard; Guam has lost over 60% of its native bird taxa in the last 30 years, many of them due to the introduced brown tree snake ( Boiga irregularis ).

Ranges are based on the IUCN red list for that species unless otherwise noted. All extinct species listed went extinct after 1500 CE (recently extinct [20]), and are indicated by a dagger symbol "†".
