Egypt Mills is part of the Cape Girardeau–Jackson, MO-IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. In June 1821, a Baptist church called Ebenezer was constituted in the Big Bend near the present site of Egypt Mills. A post office was established in 1889, which operated until 1934.
From 1963 to 1965, the tollway was marked as US 30 Toll and ran along modern-day I-88, I-294, and the present-day IL 394 (which in 1963 was called IL 1 until 1964, when it became IL 394). The East-West Tollway portion was renamed to IL 190 in 1965 and eventually became IL 5 before becoming I-88 in 1988.
Ellington Township is one of twenty-two townships in Adams County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2020 census, its population was 2,820 and it contained 1,140 housing units. [ 1 ] The southwest corner of the township is now part of Quincy Township.
