April 28, 1970 (North of Belmont off U.S. 151: Belmont: The first capitol of Wisconsin Territory, built by John Atchison in 1836 to promote his proposed town.The territorial legislature met there for one session, then moved to warmer and less-remote quarters.
In 1857, the county seat was moved from Shullsburg to Darlington, and the courthouse was built using county funds (Other reports assert this county court house is the only one in Wisconsin, paid for with a charitable gift. The donor has been described as a successful mineral miner in the county.).

Blanchard is a town in Lafayette County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 264 at the 2010 census. [3] The town was founded in the 1840s by a branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints led by James Jesse Strang. It was named for Alvin Blanchard, who jointly owned the site along with Cyrus Newkirk. [5]
The Lafayette County Courthouse is a Neoclassical building constructed in Darlington, Wisconsin in 1905. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. [1] [2] An earlier county courthouse stood on the southeast corner of the same lot since 1861 - a three-story stone building. By 1900 more space was needed.
