The Cross-Wits is an American television game show. Two contestants, each paired with two celebrities, competed to fill in words in a crossword puzzle.It premiered on December 15, 1975, and lasted for five seasons until its cancellation on September 12, 1980.
The winning team was shown one last crossword puzzle, with 10 words none of which are clues to a master puzzle. The host reads rapid-fire clues to each of the 10 words. The game is played among three contestants. On a player's turn, they choose one of 8, 9, 10, or 11 words on the board, identifying it in the same way as a regular crossword puzzle (i.e., 1-across, etc.). The contestant is shown the first unrevealed letter in the word, and a clue is given.
