The Western States Trail Ride, popularly called the Tevis Cup, is a 100-mile endurance ride.The amateur event has been held annually since 1955 except in 2008 when it was cancelled due to forest fires and in 2020 when it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tevis was born in Barreiros, Pernambuco, [1] and had an unsuccessful trial at Cruzeiro in 2021. In December 2022, after impressing with Retrô, he returned to the club and was signed on loan. [2] In March 2024, Tevis signed a permanent contract with Cruzeiro until the end of 2026. [3]
The course was first attempted on foot by twenty soldiers from Fort Riley, Kansas during the 1972 Tevis Cup horse ride event. Because the Tevis Cup imposed a 24-hour time limit, the soldiers started one day before the horses. Seven completed the 100.2 miles, and it was subsequently reported as the first "Auburn Endurance March". [1]
