George Constantine Nichopoulos (October 29, 1927 – February 24, 2016), also known as Dr. Nick, was an American physician of Greek descent. He was Elvis Presley 's personal physician and was controversial due to the singer's abuse of prescription drugs.
The period leading up to the recording had been a difficult one for Lewis. In July 1979, his father died of cancer and, two months later, he was arrested for possession of pills prescribed by Dr. George C. Nichopoulos, the infamous "Dr. Nick" who had also prescribed pills to Elvis Presley.
The album was recorded at Stax Studios in Memphis, Tennessee in July 1973 and at Presley's home in Palm Springs, California in September 1973. Two songs from these sessions would be retained for release on the Good Times album the following spring.
