The Valencia Street Hotel collapsed into the roadway in the aftermath of the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. The original Market Street Railroad was run down Valencia Street to the San Francisco and San Jose Railroad depot with service beginning in 1860. [2] Cables were installed in the roadway for haulage in 1883. [3]
The upper floors of the Veterans Building housed the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (formerly the San Francisco Museum of Art) from 1935 to 1994. [2] In 1980 the new Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall opened, on a site on Van Ness across the sidestreet from the Opera House, as part of the SFWMPAC complex.
