Yeah most frozen fries are going to be par fried in the factory. So even if you’re using an air fryer they have already been partially fried. Your instinct here is right, the better option would be to just make your own fries from potatoes where you can control the oil content.
Pretty much any frozen potato does great in an air fryer, just comes down to personal preference as far as taste goes. Not a brand, but I find I like skinnier fries better. I like McCain’s skinny beer battered fries. They cook more evenly than others I have tried. Arby’s curly fries worked pretty good.
There are a lot of variables- personal preference, air fryer, how precooked the fry is, potato thickness. 400°f for 12 minutes is a good place to start and then tinker from there. I love crinkle cut fries. Some are long and thick, some are short and thin edges.
