Some diseases are capable of changing from local to disseminated diseases. Pneumonia , for example, is generally confined to one or both lungs but can become disseminated through sepsis , in which the microorganism responsible for the pneumonia "seeds" the bloodstream or lymphatic system and is transported to distant sites in the body.
The syndromes may manifest in localized or generalized tissue overgrowth. Latitudinal and longitudinal growth may be affected. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] Nevertheless, the musculoskeletal features are central to the diagnosis of some syndromes such as Proteus syndrome .
Stage 0: carcinoma in situ, abnormal cells growing in their normal place ("in situ" from Latin for "in its place"). Stage 0 can also mean no remaining cancer after preoperative treatment in some cancers (e.g. colorectal cancer). Stage I: cancers are localized to one part of the body. Stage I cancer can be surgically removed if small enough.
Focal degeneration causes a localized attack of the host cell monolayer. Although this type of CPE may eventually affect the entire tissue, the initial stages and spreading occur at localized viral centers known as foci. Focal degeneration is due to direct cell-to-cell transfer of the virus rather than diffusion through the extracellular medium.
Histopathology of localized TGCT arising in hand finger. H&E stain. Localized TGCT is sometimes referred to as localized pigmented villonodular synovitis (L-PVNS), giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath (GCT-TS), nodular tenosynovitis, localized nodular tenosynovitis, and L-TGCT. [2]: 1 [3]: 100 The localized form of TGCT is more common.
This article provides a list of autoimmune diseases. These conditions, where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own cells, affect a range of organs and systems within the body. Each disorder is listed with the primary organ or body part that it affects and the associated autoantibodies that are typically found in people diagnosed ...
Cell growth refers to an increase in the total mass of a cell, including both cytoplasmic, nuclear and organelle volume. [1] Cell growth occurs when the overall rate of cellular biosynthesis (production of biomolecules or anabolism) is greater than the overall rate of cellular degradation (the destruction of biomolecules via the proteasome, lysosome or autophagy, or catabolism).
A systemic disease is one that affects a number of organs and tissues, or affects the body as a whole. [1] It differs from a localized disease , which is a disease affecting only part of the body (e.g., a mouth ulcer ).
