[7] Lenoir is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. To the northeast are the Brushy Mountains, a spur of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Sawmills is located in southern Caldwell County, bordered by Hudson to the north and Granite Falls to the east. Lake Rhodhiss borders the town to the south. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Sawmills has a total area of 6.6 square miles (17.2 km 2), of which 0.008 square miles (0.02 km 2), or 0.09%, is water.

Northlakes is located at the southeastern end of Caldwell County. It is bordered to the southeast by Lake Hickory, a reservoir on the Catawba River. The river forms the Caldwell County line, with Burke and Catawba counties on the opposite side. The city of Hickory is on the opposite side of Lake Hickory and also borders Northlakes to the west.
