Marion County is a county in the U.S. state of West Virginia.As of the 2020 census, the population was 56,205. [1] Its county seat is Fairmont. [2] The county was named in honor of General Francis Marion (ca. 1732–1795), known to history as "The Swamp Fox".
It is immediately south of the larger city and county seat of Fairmont, West Virginia. The city is also adjacent to the Tygart Valley River . According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 3.41 square miles (8.83 km 2 ), of which 3.23 square miles (8.37 km 2 ) is land and 0.18 square miles (0.47 km 2 ) is water.
Farmington is a town in Marion County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 389 at the 2020 census. [3] The small town is situated on Buffalo Creek and the Allegheny Mountains about 6 miles west of Fairmont, Marion County's county seat. [6] It is best known for being the site of the 1968 Farmington Mine disaster.
