The Boston School of Occupational Therapy is an American college offering degree programs in occupational therapy. It is part of the Tufts University School of Arts and Sciences. It was founded in 1918 at the request of the surgeon general of the United States Army, and became affiliated to Tufts University in 1945. [1]
The Boston MCPHS campus is based at 179 Longwood Avenue, in the Longwood Medical and Academic Area.It is next to the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and Harvard Medical School, and near health care institutions such as Boston Children's Hospital, Dana–Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Graduate students can earn a master's or Ph.D. in nearly 50 fields. More than 8,000 undergraduates and 2,000 graduate students attend the College of Arts & Sciences each year. [1] CAS was founded in 1873 as the College of Liberal Arts, with Rev. John W. Lindsay serving as the first dean, and was renamed to the College of Arts & Sciences in 1996.
In 1925, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences was formed, followed by programs at the doctoral level in 1952, establishing Boston College's role as a leading research university. In September 1933, Casper Augustus Ferguson enrolled in Morrissey College and four years later became the first black student to graduate from Boston College. [7]
Boston University Metropolitan College (MET) is one of the 17 degree-granting schools and colleges [1] of Boston University. Founded in 1965, Metropolitan College offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate degree and certificate programs.
At that time, Boston College was an all-male college and the nursing program was the first full-time undergraduate program to open to women. Initially, 35 registered nurses enrolled in January 1947 for a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in nursing or nursing education, followed by 27 secondary school graduates in the fall.
Occupational therapy is a major player in enabling individuals and communities to engage in "chosen and necessary occupations" and in "the creation of more meaningful lives". [134] Occupational therapy is practiced around the world and can be translated in practice to many different cultures and environments.
