The Colorado Outlaws played in Westminster, Colorado. In 2009, the franchise was relocated to Boulder Valley Ice in nearby Superior, Colorado , and named the Boulder Junior Bison . In its inaugural season in Superior, the team went 40–18–2 for second place in the division.

In January of 2023, the NAHL approved the Colorado Grit as an expansion franchise. [1] The Grit's initial ownership group was the same one that ran the Northern Colorado Eagles (a Tier III junior team). The Northern Colorado Eagles ceased operations after the 2022-23 season and transitioned fully to the Colorado Grit. [2]
