HMS Devonshire, pennant number 39, was a County-class heavy cruiser of the London sub-class built for the Royal Navy in the late 1920s. The ship spent most of her pre- World War II career assigned to the Mediterranean Fleet aside from a brief tour with the China Station .

HMS Devonshire was the lead ship of her class of six armoured cruiser built for the Royal Navy in the first decade of the 20th century. After taking command of the training ship HMS Devonshire in 1951, he became Naval Secretary in 1952. [6] He was made Flag Officer (Flotillas) for the Home Fleet in 1955 and Flag Officer commanding the Reserve Fleet in 1956. [6] His last appointment was as Commander-in-Chief, Plymouth in 1958.
