    8. D-Smitty. • 5 yr. ago. Here’s going to be your problem. Aside from probably lacking the skill, the kind of paint you want to put on your car is a 2-component polyurethane. The problem with that is the second component is an isocyanate-containing hardener. Isocyanate is very bad for you, see Bhopal disaster.

You could also consider a wrap for $1500-$2000. To do a factory-quality paint job : the body, the door edges, hinges, under hood and trunk, engine bay, etc would be prohibitive and would still reduce the value of your car. Make a note, next car blue or green. IMO, Insight in red = nice! You'll pay twice.

These are the outcomes that I've personally seen: Professional paint job, super expensive, looks good, can really never justify it with the value of the car. Professional wrap job, pretty expensive, looks good, only seen done on newer cars in good shape. DIY wrap job, decent amount of work, looks pretty good, only seen done on newer cars in ...

I use paint.net, it's fairly simple but good enough. I tend to just draw everything manually and use my eyes to check if things are straight and in the right place. For logos I either look for a .png or an image with a single coloured background, and then I paste it onto the car and use the paint bucket to make it fit in.

Option 1. Get some PVC pipe and build a box frame big enough to fit your car and walk around it, then cover it with tarps and tape the seams. Then cut a hole in two sides and tape a box fan to each, one pointing in and one pointing out. Then tape a hepa filter to each one. DIY clean room.

Second thing is download and follow the instructions on the “data sheet” to the tee for the paint your using. The data sheet will tell you how to mix, which clear coat is compatible, flash off times, etc., all very important information. Good luck! 3. Slimy_Shart_Socket. • 3 yr. ago.

  8. Paint Job Info--Maaco at $2700 or Body Shop at 4x That Cost?

    www.reddit.com/r/Autobody/comments/nyq4h9/paint_job...

One local shop said that the major problems are only on the front of the car and offered to just strip the front down and repaint the front panels and blend it in with the existing paint, and quoted me $3,900 for that work. A local Maaco gave me a quote for their "Best," top-level paint job at under $2,800, including (they say) stripping the ...

There are only a few door dings that could probably be taken out with dentless paint repair before attempting to do so. I was going to have a shop paint it but even Macco wants $3,500 and when I asked the guy how good the paint is on a full paint job he just kind of paused and said it is only warrantied for a year.

If you want to go through with this, it depends on how much. If you want just a exterior.. (No door jambs, under the hood etc) it can cost you from $1,500 for shit quality and bad paint materials up to $10,000 for top notch work and medium. Like everyone else said, it all depends.

Give it several thin layers over a few hours and let that dry for a day or two. Sand with 600 grit wet and clear coat.
