A far easier and better solution!There is a much easier and more functional way to create a REAL, new iCloud account-- even if you have an existing one. Simply go into your settings, then Mail... hit "New mail account...", then choose iCloud from the very top. Enter all of your info and the email address you'd like... and then create it.

Other than the ease in which your data is synced to iCloud and to any of your other Apple products, there isn't any benefits, in my opinion. It is merely a service offered by Apple. If you're satisfied with Google, Yahoo!, Outlook, AOL or any other email account, continue using it.
